Bollywood is constantly raising the bar. A box office collection of Rs 100 crore is passe. The new high starts at Rs 300 crore.

The industry is no more in awe of the coveted Rs 100-crore club. After a year full of mundane collections from the box office, Bollywood is getting back its mojo with the new super elite Rs 300-crore club.

The latest entrants and aspirants for this Rs 300-crore exclusive club includes Tiger Zinda Hai, clocking over Rs 330 crore in collections in its sixth week. Secret Superstar  has put its India collections to shame, and made a whopping Rs 420 crore in China. And Padmaavat is on the lookout, hoping to be there soon after a full attendance release weekend.

「Rs 100 crore is no more the benchmark for Bollywood. The new challenge is to see how soon a film makes its first hundred crore at the box office. The first weekend is the most attractive timeline to make the first hundred crores,」 said film trade analyst Atul Mohan.

Salman Khan’s Tiger Zinda Hai, which was the last and the biggest Bollywood movie of 2017, is still running steady across theatres in India. Despite being in its sixth week, the film according to Boxofficeindia collected around Rs 45-50 lakhs on its sixth Saturday and touched Rs 1 crore on the last weekend.

「Parts of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and other states where there is no other new films, people are still queuing up for Salman Khan’s action drama. The film is being helped by the fact that Padmaavat is not being played in these areas,」 Mohan added.

「Tiger Zinda Hai started week six with super strong numbers nearing the lifetime business of films like PK with total India business mounting to Rs 336.21 crore approximately," said film trade analyst Taran Adarsh.

The spillover success from the last year, however, is not restricted to India only. Films are eyeing as well as crossing the Rs 300-crore target outside the home turf, too. Secret Superstar being this year’s entry to mint money in China has already made Rs 420.57 crore by the end of week one in China.

「Dangal was fresh in the minds of the Chinese audience and so was Aamir Khan and Zaira Wasim. That is where Secret Superstar got some added mileage and some repeat audience too,」 said Mohan. According to Adarsh, Secret Superstar is expected to cross Rs 500 crore in the next few days.

Cut to the much hyped Padmaavat which has successfully made it first Rs 100 crore well within the first weekend of its release.

Boxofficeindia reports said Padmaavat recorded a huge extended weekend of Rs 110 crore of  net earnings. This includes four days post release, and paid previews. This has been achieved despite 25% of the market missing the shows. The real value of this business is around Rs 145 crore net, if one applies the territory figures which would have come if it exhibited all over.

「The box office has huge expectations from Padmaavat and going by the numbers its made in four-and-half days in spite of not getting the number of screens it could have if some states didn』t create a fuss over it, we are confident that the film will set the mood for the rest of the year and make it to the new elite club of Rs 300 crore if not more,」 Mohan said.
